Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

ETHICAL PRINCIPLES AND PUBLICATION POLICY
The ethical principles and publication policy listed below have been established for the publication process of the Journal for the History of Islamic Science (JHIS), to ensure the objective development and presentation of knowledge. It is important that all stakeholders in the publication process (authors, readers, researchers, publishers, reviewers, and editors) comply with the ethical standards.


Responsibilities of Authors
Authors should not submit articles that have been previously published or are under review elsewhere.
Authors must submit original articles.
Authors must properly and accurately cite all sources used during the writing of the article.
Individuals who did not contribute to the article should not be listed as authors.
Authors must inform the editors of any conflicts of interest or shared interests regarding the submitted article.
During the review process, authors must provide the editors with any requested data or information related to their articles.
If authors identify an error in their work, they must inform the editor and editorial board, and cooperate in the correction or retraction process.
Authors may withdraw their submissions only during the preliminary control stage. Submissions cannot be withdrawn during subsequent stages of the publication process.
As the journal employs a double-blind peer-review system, author information must not be included in the article file.
For studies requiring ethics committee approval, the “Ethics Committee Approval” document must be uploaded as a supplementary file.


Responsibilities of Reviewers
All articles submitted to the Journal for the History of Islamic Science are subject to a double-blind peer-review process. Double-blind peer review ensures impartial, objective, and independent evaluation by keeping the identities of both authors and reviewers confidential.
Reviewers should only review articles within their field of expertise.
Reviewers are expected to accept only articles for which they have no conflicts of interest. If a conflict arises, reviewers must inform the editor and decline to review the article.
Reviewers should evaluate articles objectively and impartially.
Reviewers must use constructive language and maintain academic courtesy, avoiding personal, offensive, or hostile comments.
Reviewers should complete their evaluations within the agreed timeframe.
Reviewers are required to fill out the Reviewer Evaluation Form for each article they assess.


Editorial Responsibilities
Editors strive to meet the information needs of all stakeholders.
Editors decide on publication based on the originality of the article, its contribution to the academic literature, and its value to readers, researchers, and practitioners.
Editors implement the journal’s peer-review and evaluation policies, maintain the confidentiality of reviewer identities, and ensure that each article is reviewed objectively and within the required time.
Editors are responsible for identifying and managing potential conflicts of interest between authors and reviewers.
Editors ensure that the journal's publishing processes align with its publication policies and guidelines.
Editors protect the confidentiality of personal data in reviewed articles.
Editors ensure that errors, inconsistencies, or misleading statements in articles are corrected.
Editors are responsible for protecting intellectual property rights of published articles and defending the rights of both the journal and the authors in case of violations.


Publication Language
The journal's primary publication language is Turkish. However, scientific articles in English are also accepted.
Publication Principles
All control and evaluation processes of the articles are documented and archived through the Dergipark system.
Manuscripts not formatted according to the Writing Guidelines will be returned to the author without being reviewed.
Only previously unpublished manuscripts are accepted for publication.
Articles derived from graduate theses or symposium papers can be uploaded with an ethics statement included at the beginning of the article.
Manuscripts under review by another publication will be returned to the author.
Only one (1) work per author may be published in a single issue, regardless of the article type.
A maximum of two (2) works per author may be published in the same volume, provided they are of different types.
Members of the editorial board may submit articles, but cannot be involved in the editorial process during the review of their own work.
Book reviews must include abstracts in both Turkish and English and cite at least 5 sources in the references (including the reviewed work).
Manuscripts are reviewed for format, spelling, and adherence to the ISNAD 2 Citation System. Authors must complete requested revisions within 11 days.
Manuscripts are checked for plagiarism/similarity using Turnitin software. The maximum allowable similarity rate set by the Editorial Board is 15%. Articles exceeding this threshold will be rejected without being sent for peer review.


Publication Policies
The Journal for the History of Islamic Science (JHIS) is the official publication of the Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Institute for the History of Islamic Science at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University.
The journal aims to support original research on the production, transmission, and circulation of scientific knowledge from past to present, particularly in the field of Islamic science history, and to contribute to the national and international academic literature.
The publication process is carried out by a dedicated editorial team of experts in their respective fields, in line with this mission.
The journal is a peer-reviewed academic publication.
The journal is published electronically.
Two issues per year are published as part of a single volume, in June and December.
All policies and processes are determined by the editorial board.
Special issues may be published with the decision of the editorial board.
Any changes to the journal’s publication policies and processes will be publicly announced.


Copyright Policy
From the date of submission to the end of the review process and after the date of publication, articles submitted to the Journal for the History of Islamic Science cannot be published in any visual, auditory, or printed medium, either partially or in full, without the permission of the Editorial Board. Citations must reference the journal.

Plagiarism Policy
The maximum acceptable plagiarism/similarity rate set by the Editorial Board is 15%.
Articles exceeding this rate will be rejected without being sent for peer review.
Plagiarism checks are conducted using Turnitin software, and the similarity report is uploaded to the Dergipark system


Financial Policy
The Journal for the History of Islamic Science is an open-access journal.
No fees are charged at any stage of the process.
No payment is made to authors for their published articles.
No payment is made to members of the editorial board or reviewers.
