Uzun ömrün sırrı: Vagus siniri

Abstract

İskemik kalp hastalığı dünyada en fazla ölüme neden olan hastalıktır ve parasempatik aktivite bu hastalıkta adeta bir kilit taşı vazifesi görmektedir. Ayrıca, vagus siniri antienflamatuvar bir etkiye sahiptir ve bu etki dikkate alındığında, her kronik hastalık için parasempatik aktivitenin aynı derecede önemli olduğu gerçeği ortaya çıkar. Vagal aktivitenin kontrolü ile birçok hastalığın önüne geçilebilir ve hatta kişinin ölümüne neden olabilecek bir kalp krizi önlenebilir. Tüm bu nedenlerden ötürü vagus sinirini yaşam süresini uzatan bir sinir olarak nitelendirmek mümkündür. Bu derlemede, literatür verileri ışığında vagus sinirinin kardiyoprotektif etkisi tartışıldı.
