Abstract
Yaygın bilinenin aksine, genetik olarak aktarılan özelliklerimiz sadece fiziksel olanlar değildir. Ruh halimizi belirleyen özelliklerimizin de genetik ifadesi vardır. VMAT2 proteini olumlu düşünmeye yatkınlığa GOD geni aracılığıyla etki eder. Benzer şekilde, monoamin oksidaz A proteini de amigdala ve hipokampüste bolca bulunan monoamin yıkımından sorumlu olarak ruh haline etki eder. Kadınlarda daha yaygın bulunan Kappa opioid reseptörü ve erkeklerde daha yaygın bulunan Mü opioid reseptörünün madde arama davranışı ve bağımlılık üzerinde belirleyici etkileri vardır. Dolayısıyla, aşağı regülasyon/yukarı regülasyon mekanizmasına göre, bağımlılık davranışı tamamen çevresel etkenlere bağlı olmayıp genetik etkenlere de bağlıdır.
