İÇERİK ANALİZİ İLE ENDÜSTRİ 4.0 ALANINDA YAZILMIŞ LİSANSÜSTÜ TEZLERİN İNCELENMESİ

Year 2025, Volume: 5 Issue: 2, 129 - 142
https://doi.org/10.61349/iesbad.1795642

Abstract

A CONTENT ANALYSIS OF POSTGRADUATE THESES RELATED TO INDUSTRY 4.0

Year 2025, Volume: 5 Issue: 2, 129 - 142
https://doi.org/10.61349/iesbad.1795642

Abstract

This study analyzes 70 graduate theses published in the National Thesis Center between 2024 and 2025, all of which include the phrase “Industry 4” in their titles, by employing the content analysis method. The main purpose of the research is to identify academic trends in the field of Industry 4.0 in Turkey and to determine the technologies, design principles, and sustainability dimensions emphasized in these theses. The originality of the study lies in the systematic coding process, through which a comparative qualitative and quantitative analysis is conducted between master’s and doctoral theses. The findings indicate that the most frequently addressed technologies are big data analytics, the Internet of Things (IoT), and cloud computing. While master’s theses mainly highlight augmented reality and smart/dark factories, doctoral dissertations more frequently focus on cybersecurity. In terms of design principles, modularity and virtualization are commonly emphasized at both levels, with the addition of service orientation in doctoral research. Regarding sustainability, the focus is mainly on environmental aspects such as environment, waste, and renewable energy, whereas economic sustainability emphasizes efficiency and growth, and social sustainability highlights occupational health and safety. In light of these findings, it is recommended that both master’s and doctoral studies move beyond literature reviews toward more application- and analysis-oriented research, and that greater attention be paid to social sustainability to achieve a more holistic evaluation of Industry 4.0.
