BENZER AMACA YÖNELİK UYGULANAN UYKUNUN FONKSİYONEL SONUÇLARI ÖLÇEĞİ (FOSQ) İLE EPWORTH UYKULULUK SKALASI (EUS) KORELE MİDİR?

Year 2012, Volume: 26 Issue: 1, 33 - 38, 01.05.2012

Abstract

IS FUNCTIONAL OUTCOMES OF SLEEP QUESTIONNAIRE (FOSQ) CORRELATED WITH EPWORTH SLEEPINESS SCALE (ESS), WHICH ARE BOTH USED FOR SIMILAR PURPOSES?

Year 2012, Volume: 26 Issue: 1, 33 - 38, 01.05.2012

Abstract

Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS) is used in evaluation of general sleepiness. Functional Outcomes of Sleep Questionnaire-FOSQ evaluates the effects of sleepiness to daily activity and its results. In this study, the correlation of Turkish version of FOSQ (FOSQ.tr) with ESS in whom PSG was performed for suspicious OSAS. The ESS and FOSQ.tr results of 108 patients in whom PSG was performed in our sleep laboratory between January-June 2009 were compared. Pearson's correlation test was used in statistical analysis. Mean age of 74(%68.5) male and 34(%31.5) female was 50.7±10.3. Considering FOSQ.tr, mean Activity Level: 2.64±0.81, Vigilance: 1.81±0.79, General Productivity: 2.52±0.67, Social Outcomes: 2.63±1.10 and Total Score: 9.65±2.98 were the results. ESS score was correlated with AHI,AI and minSpO2 (r=0.20, r=0.26, r=0.22; p0.05 respectively), or Total Score (r=-0.11; p>0.05). In moderate OSAS patients, ESS and FOSQ.tr were with relatively higher correlation: (Activity Level: r=-0.28; p=0.150, Vigilance: r=-0.36; p=0.062, General Productivity: r=-0.39;p=0.042, Social Outcomes: r=-0.15; p=0.446 and Total Score: r=-0.31; p=0.117). Validated and reliable FOSQ.tr Ðat least in this series- is not correlated with relatively simpler and more frequently used ESS. In addition, there was no correlation with AHI,AI and minSpO2. Only in moderate OSAS patients, FOSQ.tr and ESS showed relatively higher correlation, and this correlation is significant for only General Productivity sub-scores. This results can be attributed to fact that FOSQ.tr might not be well undestood in our series and FOSQ.tr should be tested in large groups.
