According to the General Health Questionnaire Assessment of Mental Health Situations of Individuals who Applied to Family Health Centers

Abstract

Aim: The research was planned and implemented in order to evaluate the mental health status of the individuals who to the family health center serving in a district of Istanbul.

Method: 163 individuals who were admitted to receive the services of the family health center and accepted to be included in the study participated in the survey. Data were obtained from 01-to 31.03.2016 using a personal information form which contains the sociodemographic characteristics of the participants and a General Health Questionnaire. Verbal approval was obtained from the individuals before the research. The analysis of the data was carried out by descriptive statistics, T Test, One Way Variance Analysis in the SPSS package program.

Findings: It was determined that The mean age of the participants was 43.57 ± 14.87 (Min = 18 Max = 88), 69.9% of the participants were female, more than half of them were single (77.9%), 39.2% were primary school graduates, 59.5% were unemployed, 81.6% had a elementary family structure 64.4% of their income is equal to their expense, and 28,2% of them had two children. The mean score of the general health questionnaire of participants was found to be 4.60 ± 5.32 (Min = 0.00 Max = 12.00); the relationship between age,  marital status, maternal education status, chronic illness status, continuous medication usage, surgical status and perceived health status and general health questionnaire scores were statistically significant (p <0.05).

Conclusion: We believe that the General Health Questionnaire used in our study and future screenings will play a significant role in determination of risk factors, in accordance with their signifance in a early detection and treatment.
