Comparison of Patients with Schizophrenia and a Manic Episode of Bipolar Affective Disorder in Terms of the Rorschach Protocol
Abstract
There are symptomological similarities between a manic episode of bipolar affective disorder and a clinical picture of schizophrenia, in which delirium, disorganised behaviour and hallucination known as positive symptoms of schizophrenia, dominate in today’s world. The two disease groups’ characteristic patterns of thought, emotion and bahaviour are alike in the exitation picture and this makes it difficult for a clinician to make a distinctive diagnosis. In this survey, it is aimed to evaluate the diagnostic feature of the test for a distinctive diagnosis comparing the two disease groups by use of the Rorschach Test. In consequence of a survey of 200 patients, findings have beeen statistically significant in patients cognitive and affective process, their ego functions, their level of interpersonal and social adaptation, their object relations, their level of immaturity and impulsivity and their level of anxiety; on the other hand their level of regression has not been different. Results reveal that the Rorschach test is able to distinguish patients with schizophrenia from those with a manic episode of bipolar affective disorder and that a distinctive diagnosis can be made by the Rorschach test.
