Abstract

Müslümanlar; sosyal, siyasi ve ekonomik birçok sebepten muhtelif zaman dilimlerinde farklı coğrafyalarda gayri müslimlerin hakimiyeti altında yaşamışlardır. Hz. Peygamber’in Medine’ye hicret etmesinden sonra Mekke’de kalan Müslümanlarla başlayan bu süreç, günümüze kadar devam etmiştir. Nisa Suresi’nin 97. ayetinde1 Mekke’den Medine’ye hicret etmeyen Müslümanlarla melekler arasında geçen diyalog, İslam’ın erken dönemlerinde mevzubahis konunun önemini göstermesi açısından dikkat çekicidir. Ayrıca ayette yer alan “yeryüzünde zulüm görenlerdendik/oppressed in the land/ ” كُنَّا مُسْتَضْعَفٖينَ فِي الَْرْضِؕ terkibi de kitabın ismine ilham kaynağı olmuştur.
