Catechism (İlmihal) Tradition In The Ottoman Period: Lord Kadizâde Mehmed (1045/1635) and His Pamphlet Titled “Risâle-i Kadizâ

Abstract

Looking the history of ilmu fiqh, it had been performed that fiqh production in which period of Islamic prophet Muhammad and mujtahid Imams. In the period of stagnation and imitation, it has been seen that the books and pamphlets such as brief let ter, commentary, annotation were written by the Islamic scholars in order to explain and understand as well as memorize of the basic fiqh books in which written the much earlier periods. In this period, starting from the fourth century AH until the Ottoman code of civil law (al-Majalla) (1286/1869), a great number of the fiqh studies had been performed in the Ottoman society. Some of these were based on issues such as lustration, prayer, fasting, pilgrimage, and charity/zakah. Especially in the 16th and 17th centuries, Turkish books and pamphlets including faith, worship, and ethic/moral issues that are named “Catechism” had been started to write in order to easily learn and understand the mean ing for Turkish people. During the above mentioned period, a small catechism pamphlet that deal with prayer/salah was written by the Lord Kadizâde (d. 1045/1635) who is the leader of the Kadızâdeliler movement. Lord Kadizade Mehmed and his pumphlet titled “Risala-i Kadizâde” have been described and latinised in the article.

Osmanlı’da İlmihal Geleneği: Kadızâde Mehmed Efendi (1045/1635) ve “Risâle-İ Kadızâde” Adlı Çalışması

Abstract

Fıkıh ilminin tarihine bakıldığında fıkhî üretim, Hz. Peygamber ile başlayan ve müçtehid imamlar dönemini içine alan süreçte yapılmıştır. Duraklama ve taklit dönemlerinde ise daha çok önceki dönemlerde yazılan temel fıkıh kitaplarının ezberlenmesi, açıklanması ve anlaşılması amacıyla muhtasar, şerh, haşiye ve ta’lik türü kitap ve risaleler yazıldığı görülmektedir. Hicrî dördüncü asırdan başlayıp Mecelle’ye kadar (1286/1869) devam eden bu dönemde Osmanlı’da çok sayıda fıkıh çalışması yapılmıştır. Bunlardan bir kısmı Müslümanların bilmesi farz olan taharet, namaz, oruç hac, zekât gibi ibadet konularını esas almıştır. Özellikle 16. ve 17. Yüzyıllarda Müslüman Türklerin kolayca an lamaları ve öğrenmeleri amacıyla; iman, ibadet ve ahlak konularını içeren ve daha sonra adına “ilmihal” adı verilecek Türkçe kitap ve risaleler yazılmaya başlanmıştır. Söz konusu dönemde, Kadızâdeliler hareketinin önderi kabul edilen Kadızâde Mehmed Efendi (ö. 1045/1635) tarafından daha çok namaz konusunu ele alan bir ilmihal risalesi yazılmıştır. Bu çalışmada Kadızâde Mehmed Efendi ve onun “Risâle-i Kadızâde” adlı söz konusu risalesi tanıtılmış ve latinize edilmiştir.
