THE EFFECT OF SELECTED MACROECONOMIC INDICATORS ON EMPLOYMENT RATE: A CASE STUDY OF SINGAPORE (1991-2019)

Year 2022, Volume: 7 Issue: 13, 57 - 76, 31.01.2022

Abstract

The problem of employment is an important economic problem in every country, including developed countries. Ignoring this issue affects sustainable efforts for the country, especially economic growth. The determination of how well productive resources are used in the economy provides information about the economic performance of countries. Employment, which refers to the actual use of existing production factors of countries, is important for the growth and development process. Singapore is one of the important centers on world trade due to its proximity to emerging sundays in terms of location and its freedom of foreign trade policies.
In this study, the effects of foreign direct investment, government expenditures, foreign trade deficit and real GDP per capita on employment rate were investigated by using annual data obtained from the world bank for Singapore in december 1991-2019. In the study, a time series was applied and annual data were studied. In addition, since there will be no seasonal effect on the variables, there is no need for any seasonal conversion or testing. In the findings, descriptive statistics and time course graphs of the variables included in the research model are presented. In order to determine the stationarity of the variables, unit root tests and structural unit root test findings were also examined in the study. According to the results, between 1991 and 2019, the Singapore economy of foreign direct investment to GDP ratio increases/decreases, the employment rate increasing/decreasing government spending to GDP ratio increases/decreases, the employment rate increasing/decreasing per capita real GDP increases/decreases, the employment rate increasing/decreasing, however, it was concluded that the variable had a statistically significant effect foreign trade deficit.

SEÇİLEN MAKROEKONOMİK GÖSTERGELERİN İSTİHDAM ORANI ÜZERİNDEKİ ETKİSİ: SİNGAPUR ÖRNEĞİ (1991-2019)

Year 2022, Volume: 7 Issue: 13, 57 - 76, 31.01.2022
