Some Fruit Characteristics of Alişar Pear Clones Selected in Şebinkarahisar (Giresun) District

Abstract

This study was conducted to aim select the ones that are superior in terms of fruit quality among the clones belonging to local Alişar pear variety growing in Şebinkarahisar (Giresun) district. For this purpose, 27 Alişar pear clones were taken into consideration and 12 clones were selected by a “weighted ranked method’’ based on fruit weight, soluble solids content, titratable acidity, seed number, grittiness and taste. In selected clones were investigated fruit weight, fruit length, fruit diameter, fruit width, fruit flesh firmness, peel thickness, fruit stalk lenght, fruit stalk thickness, seed number, flower pit depth, flower pit width, seed house length, seed house width, pH, soluble solids content and titratable acidity as fruit characteristics. In selected Alişar pear clones were determined that statistically significant differences in terms of investigated fruit characteristics (P<0.05). In selected clones were found fruit weight between 69.20 g and 141.91 g, flesh firmness 4.69 kg cm-2 and 9.07 kg cm-2, pH value 4.29 and 5.18, soluble solids content 13.32% and 18.85% and titratable acidity amount 0.92% and 1.51%. In result of study was determined that great variation in terms of investigated fruit characteristics between selected clones. Investigation under the same conditions by grafting of the selected clones is important in terms of obtaining more objective results.
