Determination of Pollen Quality Levels in Some Hazelnut Cultivars

Abstract

In this study the germination and viability of pollen of Tombul, Palaz, Çakıldak, Foşa, Allahverdi, Sivri, Kalınkara and Yassı Badem hazelnut cultivars are investigated. TTC test was applied to determine the pollen viability of the cultivars. The germination of pollens were determined according to ‘agar in petri method’. The highest rate of the viability of pollen has been determined on the Allahverdi cultivar as 71.03%, while it was the lowest in Yassı Badem cultivar as 1.61%. The highest germination of the pollen has been determined on the Tombul hazelnut in both years. The highest pollen germination rate in 2015 determined at a concentration of 15% sucrose (64.07%). In 2016, the rate of germination was the highest in 20% sucrose (53.12%). Pollen viability varied depending on the cultivars and years and pollen germination rates have changed according to the cultivars, years and sucrose concentrations.
