MEASUREMENT OF THE EFFICIENCY OF MULTI-BRANCH DEPOSIT BANKS IN TÜRKİYE DURING THE PANDEMIC AND POST-PANDEMIC PERIODS USING DATA ENVELOPMENT ANALYSIS

Abstract

In this study, the operational efficiencies of multi-branch deposit banks operating in Türkiye during and after the Covid-19 pandemic, which profoundly impacted the global socio-economic structure, were measured using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The scope of the empirical analysis covers the period between 2019 and 2024. The empirical findings indicate that the monetary relief measures provided by the government at the onset of the pandemic were predominantly channeled through state-owned banks, reflecting their pronounced efficiency during this sub-period. Concurrently, following the mitigation and subsequent cessation of the pandemic's adverse effects, foreign and domestic private multi-branch commercial banks exhibited a significant increase in their efficiency scores.
