Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to present a bibliometric analysis of academic research conducted at the intersection of tourism and sociology disciplines. To achieve this, academic articles published in the fields of tourism and sociology were retrieved from the Web of Science database using the keywords “tourism” and “sociology,” resulting in a total of 625 articles. The data were collected from articles published between 1980 and 2024 within the “Hospitality Leisure Sport Tourism” and “Sociology” categories, including bibliometric information such as titles, abstracts, keywords, author names, citation counts, and journal details. The analysis of the data was conducted using the Biblioshiny software. The study provides a detailed examination of publication productivity over the years, most-cited studies, collaboration networks among researchers, and thematic distributions in the literature, using various visualizations. The findings indicate a significant increase in academic output in the fields of tourism and sociology in recent years. Notably, themes such as sustainability, cultural heritage, and the social impacts of tourism have gained prominence. Furthermore, international collaborations have been identified as playing a crucial role in the development of these disciplines, serving as a key factor in the dissemination of scientific knowledge and the enhancement of interdisciplinary interactions. The study also identifies research gaps in the current literature and proposes new research avenues and thematic directions for future studies.
