Investigation Analysis Results and Modification of Na+-Montmorillonite With Quaternary Ammonium Salt and Ionic Liquid

Year 2015, Volume: 1 Issue: 1, 1 - 6, 01.06.2015

Abstract

Organically modified montmorillonites have attracted a great deal of interest because of their wide applications in industry and environmental protection. We have synthesized organomontmorillonites using montmorillonites with different cation exchange capacities CEC and surfactants with different alkyl chain number and chain length. Commercially available unmodified clay was treated under different conditions with aqueous solutions of quaternary ammonium salt; N-N dimethyldodecyl amine QASI and ionic liquid; 1-hexhyl-3-methyl imidazolium tetrafloroborat IL1 . The modified materials were characterized qualitatively by FTIR, SEM and WXRD analysis
