İslam'ı Seküler Ahlakla Uyumlu Hale Getirmek: Almanya'daki İslami Din Ders Kitapları Örneği

Year 2025, Volume: 5 Issue: 2, 225 - 242, 06.12.2025

Abstract

Translating Islam into Secular Morality: The Example of Islamic Religious Textbooks in Germany

Year 2025, Volume: 5 Issue: 2, 225 - 242, 06.12.2025

Abstract

This study is based on the analysis of selected texts from textbooks used in German Islamic religious education. The theoretical basis of this analysis is Habermas's approach to transla-tion. In the empirical analysis, the terms used to translate various Islamic concepts into se-cular morality were reconstructed. It became clear that the Islamic religious textbooks are conducive to democratization in a pedagogical-didactic way, insofar as they enable the lear-ning subjects to engage in self-reflection, criticism, and interpretation through this transla-tion process. However, some contradictions, tensions, and dilemmas of these textbooks also became evident.
