The Function of Description in Learning of a Foreign Language

Öz

A language is a set of linguistic elements which works according to grammatical rules. Each linguistic element plays a large role during the operation of these rules. Being one of the linguistic components, the description has a very considerable value. It occupies an exclusive place in every linguistic and literary production. The kinds of description take a large place in literary texts and in linguistic discourse. Thus, the importance of the descriptions is manifested in the teaching of the foreign language. By analysing here the kinds of description we tried to find examples according to the types of descriptions, to look for the usefulness of the descriptions in the deep and perfect understanding of the target language. By examining the comparison, the metaphor, the symbol and the other descriptive elements which have considerable values during the realization of the literary texts and the long speeches, we tried to show the considerable place of the descriptions in this work.
