Der ‚junge Werther‘ Goethe’s und der ‚junge Törleß‘ Musils im Kontext der Intertextualität und Interkulturalität

The present work intends to pursue the question as to what extent references on various interdiscursive paths can be made between two works distant from each other in epochal and cultural context. The subject of investigation is "The Sorrows of Young Werther" (1774) by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and "The Confusions of Young Törless" (1906) by Robert Musil. Deviating and intersecting characteristics are questioned and examined with the methodological approach of intertextuality on various level s such as content, type of text, text structure, etc. in the corpus of the youth and adolescence novel. Based on this investigation, an attempt is made to contextualize by means of the literary theory of intertextuality the term interculturality as a hermeneutic procedure. Intertextuality functions here as a central point of reference, but not for the purpose of connecting two works with the 'violence of theory', but rather to be able to provide rudimentary evidence that these concepts are present in aesthetic practice, going beyond the classifying-naming theory. In addition, an attempt is undertaken to view a new commensurability of the phenomena of intertextuality and interculturality within literary research, which may contribute to new approaches in literary studies. Furthermore, posed questions about a possible correlation between the terms intertextuality and interculturality in research should provide further clues.
