RELATION BETWEEN IMAGE AND TEXT IN TRANSLATION

Year 2015, Volume: 3 Issue: 3, 242 - 252, 30.12.2015

Abstract

Relation between image and text in translation is complex, interconnected and complementary by its nature. The message of the text can be informative, expressive, iconic and imaginary. It is expected that image helps to the message of text understood better. However, image may not always help the message of text understood. Image has an ethnographic and cultural function and may lead to the affective, impressive ideas and ideas improving imagination. It is also common perception that there is no need for a translator in the translation of a text supported with an image. We know it is misleading because an image doesn’t always have a universal meaning and it is a result of social agreement in the society. To understand the message correctly, a translator who makes explanation with the image is always needed. The relation between image and text can be defined as relation of parallel signification, complementary relation, interpretative relation, relation of equivalence and relation of contradiction. From this point of view the aim of this study is to examine the relation between image and text and to analyze the influence of translator in terms of linguistic and visual messages.

ÇEVİRİDE METİN VE GÖRSEL ARASINADAKİ İLİŞKİ

Year 2015, Volume: 3 Issue: 3, 242 - 252, 30.12.2015
