FINANCIAL LITERACY RESEARCH: AN APPLICATION ON THE STUDENTS OF ERCIYES UNIVERSITY

Abstract

This study conducted on 100 management students and another 100 students from other departments aimed to analyze Erciyes University students’ financial literacy behaviour. We attempted to determine the overall level of the sudents’ financial literacy and their habits of credit cards, banks and cash machines. Management sudents were compared with the students of other departments and male students with the female students in terms of their financial literacy levels and the effects of the students’ families’ educatianal level on the financial literacy. It was concluded that management students’ financial literacy level was better than those of the other departments and male students than the female students

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı; Erciyes Üniversitesinde yapılan anket ile öğrencilerin finansal okuryazarlık davranışlarının analizidir. Ankette Erciyes Üniversitesi’nde okuyan 100 işletme ve 100 diğer bölüm öğrencisinden oluşan bir örneklem kullanılmış; genel finansal okuryazarlık seviyesi, öğrencilerin kredi kartı ve banka/bankamatik alışkanlıkları tespit edilmeye çalışılmışken, işletme-diğer bölüm öğrencileri ile; erkek- kadın öğrencilerle finansal okuryazarlık karşılaştırması, aile eğitim durumunun öğrencilerin finansal okuryazarlıklarına etkisi araştırılmıştır. Araştırmada; işletme öğrencilerinin, diğer bölüm öğrencilerinden; erkek öğrencilerin kadın öğrencilerden daha iyi finansal okuryazarlık seviyesine sahip olduğu bulunmuştur.
