CAMP MANAGEMENT MODEL OF TURKEY: SAMPLE OF NİZİP/GAZİANTEP REFUGEE CAMP
Abstract
The main purpose of the study is
comparatively to analyse camp management model of Turkey from the sample of
temporary refugee center in Nizip/Gaziantep and to form a framework or a model.
camp management model of Turkey will be analysed statistically by comparing the
other camp management models in Lebanon, Jordan, Germany, Canada and France.
The capacity of physical and management organisation of Nizip refugee camp will
be revealed and the services given in the camp (medical, infrastructure,
education, psycho-social supports, security etc.) will be analysed in detail.
As well as analysing the camp management in terms of internal affairs, the
relations with other institutions (UN, EU, immigration authority, NGOs, etc.)
will be studied. Determining the distinction of public/private space, the
protection of this situation and in this respect, how culture, language and
tradition is approached will be described. In Gaziantep, still 38.474 refugees
live in the camps and over 400 thousand refugees live in the city centre. 4.445
Syrians reside in Nizip refugee camp which was founded in 11 February 2013. The
camp was managed by the public officers and civilian authorities and services
in the fields of medical, education, infrastructure security, etc. are given in
the camp. The disabled people, the women living alone, the women pregnant and
the women losing their husbands at war were primarily taken in this container
camp. There is only one family living in
each container. The camp management allows to form neighbouring representatives
such as councils of women, child and youth under democratic conditions to
include the refugees in the management. This study will contribute to the
management of demographic movements which can be possibly experienced in the
future all over the world and it will show Turkish camp management model which
develops a management style appropriate with its own condition.
