PERFECTIONISM AND FORGIVENESS IN ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS

Abstract

The aim of this study is examining the relationship between perfectionism and for-giveness levels of individuals who are in a romantic relationship. A total of 357 in-dividuals, 215 women and 142 men have participated the research. In the study, Perfectionism in Romantic Relationships Scale was used to measure the perfectio-nism levels of individuals. To measure the forgiveness levels of individuals the Forgiveness in Interpersonal Relations Scale was used. To compare the scale data according to gender Independent Group T-test was used and One-Way Anova to compare the perfectionism and forgiveness levels according to relationship status and duration of the relationship. Regression analysis was used to examine the effect of perfectionism scores on forgiveness in interpersonal relationships. According to the results, there are no significant relationship between the perfectionism and for-giveness levels of individuals but only in some sub-dimensions. It was found that individuals levels of perfectionism in a romantic relationship were not a significant predictor of their forgiveness levels, but some sub-dimensions have significant ef-fects on other sub-dimensions. The perfectionism and forgiveness levels of indivi-duals do not differ significantly according to gender, but there is a significant diffe-rence in the order sub-dimension.

ROMANTİK İLİŞKİLERDE MÜKEMMELİYETÇİLİK VE AFFETME

Abstract

Bu araştırmada romantik ilişkisi olan bireylerin romantik ilişkilerine yönelik mü-kemmeliyetçilik düzeyleri ile affetme düzeyleri arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmaya Samsun ilinde yaşayan ve romantik ilişkisi olan 215’i kadın, 142’si erkek olmak üzere toplamda 357 birey katılmıştır. Araştırmada birey-lerin romantik ilişkilerde mükemmeliyetçilik düzeylerini ölçmek amacıyla Romantik İlişkilerde Mükemmeliyetçilik Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Bireylerin affetme düzeylerini ölçmek amacıyla Kişilerarası İlişkilerde Affetme Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Ölçek verile-rinin cinsiyete göre karşılaştırılmasında bağımsız gruplar arası t testi, ilişki durumu-na ve ilişki süresine göre karşılaştırılmasında tek yönlü varyans analizi kullanılmış-tır. Romantik ilişkilerde mükemmeliyetçilik ölçeği puanlarının kişilerarası ilişkilerde affetme üzerinde etkisinin incelenmesinde Regresyon analizi kullanılmıştır. Araş-tırma sonuçlarına göre bireylerin romantik ilişkideki mükemmeliyetçilik düzeyleri ile affetme düzeyleri arasında bazı alt boyutlarda anlamlı ilişkiler varken, bazı alt boyutlarda ise anlamlı ilişkiler yoktur. Bireylerin romantik ilişkideki mükemmeli-yetçilik düzeylerinin affetme düzeylerinin anlamlı bir yordayıcısı olmadığı ancak alt boyutlar incelendiğinde bazı alt boyutların diğerleri üzerinde anlamlı etkileri olduğu bulunmuştur. Bireylerin mükemmeliyetçilik ve affetme düzeylerinin cinsiyete göre anlamlı düzeyde farklılaşmadığı ancak mükemmeliyetçiliğin düzen alt boyutunda anlamlı bir farklılaşmanın olduğu bulunmuştur.
