Examining father–child relationships in the preschool period in relation to maternal gatekeeping behaviours

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationships between maternal gatekeeping behaviours and variables related to the father–child relationship. The study group consisted of 60 children (36 girls, 24 boys) attending an independent preschool affiliated with the Ministry of National Education in the province of Samsun, and their parents (60 mothers and 60 fathers). Three instruments were used: the Personal Information Form, the Maternal Gatekeeping Scale, and the Parent–Child Relationship Scale (Father Form). The findings indicate that maternal gatekeeping behaviours may be associated with the father–child relationship and may predict aspects of this relationship. The total maternal gatekeeping score and its four sub-dimensions were found to be related to at least one father–child relationship variable. The total gatekeeping score and three sub-dimensions (modern motherhood, indirect motherhood, and doubly responsible motherhood) were associated with the conflict sub-dimension of the father–child relationship. In contrast, the overly attached motherhood sub-dimension was associated with the positive relationship sub-dimension. Furthermore, the total gatekeeping score and the doubly responsible motherhood sub-dimension predicted the conflict sub-dimension of the father–child relationship. In contrast, the overly attached motherhood sub-dimension predicted the positive relationship sub-dimension.

Okul öncesi dönemde baba çocuk ilişkilerinin anne bekçiliği davranışları açısından incelenmesi

Abstract

Araştırmanın amacı, anne bekçiliği davranışları ile baba çocuk ilişkisi değişkenleri arasındaki ilişkilerin incelenmesidir. Çalışma grubuna, Samsun ilinde Milli Eğitim Bakanlığına bağlı bir bağımsız anaokuluna devam eden 60 çocuk (36 kız, 24 erkek) ve ebeveynleri (60 anne ve 60 baba) dahil edilmiştir. Araştırmada Kişisel Bilgi Formu, Babasavar Annelik Ölçeği ve Ebeveyn Çocuk İlişki Ölçeği (Baba Formu) olmak üzere üç ölçme aracı kullanılmıştır. Bulgulara göre anne bekçiliği davranışlarının baba çocuk ilişkisi ile ilişkili olabildiği ve baba çocuk ilişkisini yordayabildiği söylenebilir. Anne bekçiliğine ilişkin toplam puan ve dört alt boyut, en az bir baba çocuk ilişkisi değişkeniyle ilişkili bulunmuştur. Anne bekçiliği toplam puanı ve üç alt boyut (modern annelik, dolaylı annelik, iki kat sorumlu annelik) baba çocuk ilişkisindeki çatışma alt boyutuyla, aşırı bağlı annelik de olumlu ilişki alt boyutuyla ilişkili bulunmuştur. Anne bekçiliği toplam puanı ve iki kat sorumlu annelik baba çocuk ilişkisinden çatışma alt boyutunu, aşırı bağlı annelik alt boyutu olumlu ilişkiler alt boyutunu yordamaktadır.
