THE CONCEPT AND THE IMPORTANCE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES (IT) CAPABILITIES WITHIN ORGANZATIONS, AND THE FACTORS EFFECTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF IT CAPABILITIES

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to explain the concept of Information Technologies (IT) capability and its importance for today`s companies in addition to revealing the possible antecedents that take part in developing IT capability in the context of resource based view. In order to do so, we study the effects of antecedents which are Technologic Orientation, Resource Commitment, and Managerial Involvement, that we considered as the antedecends, on the Technical IT capability and Human Based IT Capability which represent the two dimensions of the core IT competence.

The research is conducted on the 60 IT personel of 17 firms operating in manufacturing and service industry, located around Kocaeli, İstanbul and Sakarya at 2016. The data is tested, using Cronbach’s alpha analysis, factor analysis and corelation and regession analysis. The findings provide empirical evidence in support of the relationships amongs resource commitment, managerial involvement and technical IT capability; thus all the the antecedents are found to be positively associated with developing IT capabilities.

İŞLETMELERDE BİLGİ TEKNOLOJİLERİ (BT) YETENEKLERİ KAVRAMI, ÖNEMİ VE BT YETENEKLERİN GELİŞTİRİLMESİ ÜZERİNDE ROL OYNAYAN FAKTÖRLER

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı kaynak temelli yaklaşım çerçevesinde Bilgi Teknolojileri (BT) yetenekleri kavramını, bu yeteneğin işletmeler için önemini ve BT yeteneklerinin geliştirilmesinde rol oynayan faktörleri ortaya koymaktır. Bu kapsamda; BT yeteneğinin geliştirilmesindeki öncül faktörler olarak kabul ettiğimiz Teknolojik Yönelim, Kaynak Desteği, Yönetsel Entegrasyonun temel BT yeteneğin iki boyutu olan Teknik BT yeteneği ve Beşeri BT yeteneği üzerindeki etkileri incelenmiştir.

Araştırma, 2016 yılında Kocaeli, İstanbul ve Sakarya illerinde bulunan imalat ve hizmet sektöründe faaliyetlerini yürüten 17 firmanın 60 BT çalışanına uygulanan anket sonuçlarına dayanmaktadır. Araştırma kapsamında toplanan veriler Cronbach’s Alpha, Faktör Analizi, Korelasyon ve Regresyon analizlerine tabi tutulmuştur. Bulgular, kaynak desteği ve yönetsel entegrasyonun teknik BT yeteneği üstündeki öncül etkilerine dair kanıt sağlamakta; böyle her üç öncülün de beşeri BT yeteneği geliştirmede rol oynadığını göstermektedir.
