İnteraktif Medya Teknolojileri Ve Yeni Nesil Medya Tasarımcıları İçin Ekolojik Bir Yaklaşım

Abstract

Teknoloji araçları ve medya ile kurulan ilişki, binlerce yıllık insanlık yolculuğunda insanın kendini ve dünyayı anlamlandırmasında en temel unsurlardan biri olmuştur. Kullanıcı ile etkileşime giren dijital medyadaki gelişme ve yaygınlaşma, teknolojilerin etkisini gittikçe katlandırarak bilinç, beden ve ekoloji seviyelerinde, kimi ayrıştırıcı ve yıkıcı dönüşümlere sebep olmaktadır. Bu çalışma, söz konusu ayrıştırıcı etkilere karşın, bu medya tasarımları için bütüncül bir tasarım yaklaşımı önermektedir. Teknolojik etkinin ekolojik doğası ve ekoloji disiplininin bütüncül yaklaşımı içselleştiren sistemli yapısı, bu yaklaşımın ekoloji ve çevre araştırmaları alanından derlenmesine yön vermiştir. Ortaya konan bir dizi normatif ekolojik tasarım kriteri ve bunların değerlendirme parametreleri, Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi İnteraktif Medya Tasarımı Bölümü Lisans programının 2006-2014 yılları arasında başarılı bulunan 88 adet bitirme projesi örneklemi üzerinde test edilmiş, bu sayede bu örneklemin sunduğu farklı teknoloji ve medya platformlarının tasarımında, ekolojik yaklaşımımızla bir karşılaştırma ve yakın geleceğe dair projeksiyon oluşturabilecek tartışmalar sunulmuştur.

An Ecological Approach To Interactive Media Design and New Generation of Media Designers

Abstract

Throughout thousands of years of humanity’s odyssey on earth, our relationship with media and the tools of technology has been one of the most essential means of making sense of the world and our existence. The rapid advancement and proliferation of interactive digital technologies accelerates a fundamental transformational process, engendering a number of disruptive and destructive alterations at the levels of the body, consciousness, and ecology. This research intends to propose a novel perspective on the transformative effects of media, and to counter their divisive and destructive impacts by suggesting a holistic approach to interactive media design. The ecological nature of the effects of technology, and the systemic structure of ecology as a scientific discipline, which fully embraces the holistic approach, have led our research to draw on the works in the fields of ecology and environmental studies. A set of normative ecological design principles and evaluation parameters is proposed and tested on the 88 graduation projects of the new generation of Interactive Media Design students who graduated between 2006-2014 at Yildiz Technical University. The dataset provides a diverse use of digital technologies and new media, and thus supports a comparative study of these technologies and a discussion on the future of the design of these technologies, from our ecological perspective.
