Üniversite Öğrencilerinde Postüral Farkındalık İle Algılanan Stres Düzeyleri Arasındaki İlişki

Year 2026, Volume: 11 Issue: 1, 70 - 77, 28.01.2026

Abstract

etmektedir.

The Relationship Between Postural Awareness And Perceived Stress Level In University Students

Year 2026, Volume: 11 Issue: 1, 70 - 77, 28.01.2026

Abstract

Objective: Postural awareness is essential for maintaining healthy posture habits in daily life. Identifying the relationship between perceived stress levels and postural awareness in university students, who are at risk for both stress and postural disorders, is important for implementing
preventive measures to enhance their quality of life. This study aims to examine the relationship between perceived stress and postural awareness levels in university students.
Material and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, demographic information of 388 university students (female=266, male=122) with a mean age of 21.53±4.39 years was collected. Pain in the lower back, neck, and upper back was assessed using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), postural
awareness levels were evaluated with the Postural Awareness Scale (PAS), and stress levels were measured using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS).
Results: According to the analysis results, a negative and statistically significant relationship was found between the total score of the PAS and the PSS (r=-0.228, p<0.001). Males had significantly higher postural awareness levels than females (p=0.048), while females had significantly
higher perceived stress levels than males (p<0.001). Additionally, negative and significant relationships were identified between postüral awareness and spinal pain. The correlation coefficients were r=-0.221 (p<0.001) for neck pain, r=-0.269 (p<0.001) for upper back pain, and r=-0.135 (p=0.008) for lower back pain. For the statistical significance level of the data, a value of p<0.05 was accepted.
Conclusion: This study demonstrates that awareness of bodily posture may have a deeper impact on individuals' perceived stress than previously assumed. The connection between physical experiences and mental processes necessitates consideration not only of postural adjustments but
also of stress management approaches. The findings highlight the importance of body–mind integration in future intervention programs and suggest that educational efforts to enhance postural awareness may have a transformative effect on both physical and psychological well-being.
