Language Intervention in Quadruplet Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Case Study

Abstract

Babies born with multiple births and their parents are at a disadvantage in terms of medical, developmental, and psychological risks compared to children born with single birth and parents. In this case study, the effectiveness of the Enhanced Milieu Teaching method with three sessions a week for eight weeks was applied to a 2;1 years old girl who was born with a quadruplet and diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder was examined. Other quadruplet siblings do not have any diagnosis. DENVER II-Developmental Screening Test, The MacArthur Communicative Development Inventory, Test of Language Development, Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers were used to evaluate the case’s four general areas of development, communication, and language skills, and autism risk before and after therapy. Results showed that the Enhanced Milieu Teaching method was effective in improving the expressive language skills of the child. Findings were discussed based on the results of the related literature.

Otizm Spektrum Bozukluğu Tanılı Dördüz Eşine Dil Müdahalesi: Olgu Sunumu

Abstract

Çoklu doğum ile dünyaya gelen bebekler ve ebeveynleri tıbbi, gelişimsel ve psikolojik riskler açısından tekil doğum ile dünyaya gelen çocuklara ve ebeveynlerine kıyasla daha dezavantajlıdır. Bu olgu çalışmasında dördüz doğum ile dünyaya gelmiş, Otizm Spektrum Bozukluğu tanısı almış, 2;1 yaşındaki bir kız çocuğuna sekiz hafta boyunca, haftada üç oturum şeklinde uygulanan Geliştirilmiş Milieu Öğretim yönteminin etkililiği incelenmiştir. Diğer dördüz eşlerinin herhangi bir tanısı bulunmamaktadır. Olgunun terapi öncesi ve sonrası dört gelişim alanı düzeyini, iletişim ve dil becerilerini, taşıdığı otizm riskini değerlendirmek için DENVER II Gelişimsel Tarama Testi, Türkçe İletişim Davranışları Gelişimi Envanteri, Türkçe Erken Dil Gelişimi Testi ve Değiştirilmiş Erken Çocukluk Dönemi Otizm Tarama Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen bulgular Geliştirilmiş Milieu Öğretim Yönteminin alıcı ve ifade edici dil becerilerini geliştirmede etkili olduğunu göstermektedir. Bulgular ilgili literatür ışığında tartışılmıştır.
