Ebeveynlerin Okul Sağlığı Hemşiresinin Rollerini Algılamaları

Year 2021, Volume: 6 Issue: 2, 85 - 91, 31.05.2021

Abstract

Parents’ Perceptions of School Nurse Roles

Year 2021, Volume: 6 Issue: 2, 85 - 91, 31.05.2021

Abstract

Objective: The aim of the present study is to determine how parents perceive the roles of school health nurses.
Material and Method: The sample of this comparative-descriptive study consisted of parents (n=422) of children who are studying in Izmir. The data were collected by using the personal information form and the “Parents’ and Teachers’ Perceptions of School Nurse Roles scale”. The data was evaluated by using independent samples t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskall-Wallis, and one-way variance analysis.
Results: The mean age of parents were 39.77±6.94 years (18-60 ages). 88.2% of the parents reported that they have a high opinion on having a nurse in the school. 64.2% of the parents indicated that the education of the nurse should be at least at the bachelor’s degree. Mean scores of the Parents’ and Teachers’ Perceptions of School Nurse Roles scale was 108.55±31.12 (54-270). Significant differences were detected in the dimensions of "prevention the disease and consultancy" (p≤0.05) and of "training and education" (p≤0.01) regarding parents requests for having a nurse in all schools. The parents’ state of awareness regarding school health nurses was influenced by the dimensions of "caring of ill/healthy individuals and first aid" (p<0.05) and “research” (p<0.01). It was determined that the emphasis of the parents on the necessity of a school health nurse in schools was influenced by the “training and education”, “collaboration”, “preventing the disease and consultancy” (p<0.05), “caring of ill/healthy individuals and first aid” (p<0.01) dimensions, and the total scores of the scale.
Conclusion: When the mean values of the scale was evaluated, it was determined that the roles of the school health care nurse were perceived limitedly by the parents. It is suggested that the awareness programs on the roles of school nurses should be organized for parents.
