Preservation of Breast Milk During Natural Disasters

Year 2023, Volume: 8 Issue: 2, 775 - 778, 21.06.2023

Abstract

Feeding the infant with breast milk has great nutritional properties for optimizing its health. It is recognized that babies are the most critical to the consequences of natural disasters and that the unique wishes of mothers and babies should be taken into account in emergency plans. In this study, the continuation of breastfeeding in disasters was examined in line with the recommendations of the World Health Organization / United Nations International Children's Emergency Found Baby and Young Child Nutrition Global Strategy and the Infant Nutrition Group in Emergencies. In addition, the triage plan of the American Academy of Pediatrics for infant feeding in disasters and emergencies, and the nursing interventions necessary for the community to support the mother in breast milk storage and breastfeeding in disasters are also explained. In conclusion; In an emergency, mothers should be supported on the benefits of breastfeeding and disaster preparedness, they should take an active role in ensuring privacy, mother-infant interaction, components of breastfeeding self-efficacy of mothers, controlled distribution of formula foods, provision of special areas reserved for breastfeeding. In case of disaster, measures that can be taken to continue breastfeeding should be included in emergency action plans.

Doğal Afetlerde Anne Sütü ile Beslemenin Sürdürülmesi

Year 2023, Volume: 8 Issue: 2, 775 - 778, 21.06.2023
