Abstract

Bu nedenle Ulusal Tamamlayıcı Alternatif Tıp Merkezi (The National Center for Complementary Alternative Medicine) yogayı zihin-beden tıbbı olarak sınıflandırır.

Abstract

Yoga is an ancient method based on Indian philosophy that combines physical exercises, breathing techniques, meditation and a healthy lifestyle. Yoga is a spiritual practice that uses the mind (meditation) and body (exercises) to balance our systems. It explores the mind's ability to influence emotions and the body. That's why the National Center for Complementary Alternative Medicine classifies yoga as mind-body medicine. Mindbody therapies focus on the relationships between the brain, mind, body, and behavior and their effects on health and illness. The practice of yoga also integrates the physical, mental and spiritual components of the individual to improve health and well-being. Therefore, yoga is not only a science but also an art of healthy living. It is widely used for health promotion, disease prevention, and as a possible treatment for neurological disorders. Studies investigating its effects on various neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's, dementia, epilepsy, Alzheimer's disease, headaches and stroke have reported that yoga practice is effective on disease symptoms, balance, strength, flexibility, cognitive status, depression, anxiety and quality of life. Considering the positive effects of yoga on health in neurological diseases; It can be said that it is a reasonably safe, cost-effective, feasible and promising method for patients. It is very important that nurses, as health professionals who play the most important role in the education of patients, are informed about the available complementary and integrative methods that can manage and control the symptoms in neurological diseases. In addition, nurses should show the necessary information and care to ensure that patients avoid undesirable effects, especially while performing advanced yoga practices. The aim of this review is to examine the results of yoga practice used in neurological diseases
