Repair Documents in Court Records (The Example of Hamza Bey Pious Foundations)
Abstract
A reliable source of historical research is of utmost importance in terms of the reality to be revealed.The Court Records are mere deposit of reliable sources in the illumination of the Ottoman history,social, cultural, economic life, diplomatic relations, ethnic groups and members of different religions,the flow of social life, the information that goes into the records along with various problems comprising. The records in the Court Records with the phrases "repair, discovery", are documents with rich content which are waiting to be revealed. Repair documents are important in the aspects such that they reflect the repair process, provide opportunities to study the Ottoman lifestyle and culture.It is also extremely important in terms of shedding light on the works and restorations in the architectural field.
Our historical inheritance has time to time been damaged by natural disasters or by humans and become dysfunctional. Repair activities like that are the product of such a system that takes care of historic and religious buildings with the help of foundation mechanism. Becomes engaged in situations like this are carried out by the foundation mechanism. By examining the repairment documents, the reasons for the destruction of the structures, the language used in the documentation process, detection process of a building that has been damaged, repair reports and exploration reports prepared by the exploration commitee, the steps of the repair work is going to be further studied in the light of Hamza Bey Pious Foundations example.
