Abstract

Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel, as the most impressive artists of the Renaissance period, have processed the creation of the universe and humanity with their unique approaches. While Bosch created works full of eerie and fantastic elements during the 15th-century Dutch Renaissance, Bruegel reinterpreted these fantastic themes from a community-focused and more realistic perspective. Bosch’s works present a radical critique through morality, religiosity, and social deviations; Bruegel relates these critiques to social corruption and moral decline, shedding light on the social realities of the era. Both artists challenge the strict moral judgments of the period and describe the complex nature of human, animal and plant forms with surreal images. This study provides a comparative analysis of the Renaissance art of Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel. This analysis, based primarily on “The Garden of Earthly Delights” among other significant works, reveals that artists offer various perspectives from aesthetic and sociological viewpoints. This analysis aims to uncover Bosch and Bruegel’s trans-era artistic legacies and their comprehensive commentaries on social structures.

Rönesans’ta Sürrealizm: Bosch Ve Bruegel Sanatı Üzerine Sosyolojik Bir Bakış
