Abstract
The purpose of the study is to compare the effects of supportive care provided by student nurses and routine care in normal delivery on birth comfort. It is an experimental study. 108 women who had normal vaginal delivery in the province of Burdur constituted the sample. The data have been collected with face-to-face interview method by using a descriptive information form and the Childbirth Comfort Scale. A total of 108 cases have been included to the study, they have been divided as; 54 experiment (given supportive care by the student nurse) and 54 control (given routine care) group. The level of statistical significance has been accepted as p<0.05. The mean ages in the experiment and control groups have been found as 26.5±6.3 and 26.2±5.3 respectively, the mean ages of the participants’ spouses have been found as 30.0±6.6 and 30.2±6.4 (p>0.05). The experiment and control groups are similar in terms of; education status, occupation, economic status, spouse’s education status and spouse’s occupation (p>0.05). While the mean score of the experiment group’s Birth Comfort Scale was 36.0±3.7, it has been founda as 34.7±4.2 in the control group (p<0.05). It has been determined that, one-to-one fulfillment of the care needs and expectations of the woman regarding herself and her baby by supportive care approach of the student nurse, increased birth comfort in the women. Student nurses' orientation to the practice areas better and faster with an education system that provides hospital-school integration at the national level, strategies supporting one-to-one care such as increasing the number of midwives / nurses working in clinics and reducing the workload can improve the quality of care by increasing the comfort level.
