Abstract
Cancer is a chronic disease that can be prevented and controlled by applying evidence-based strategies for prevention, early diagnosis and treatment. One of the interventions applied to bring positive health behaviors to the individual and to increase the self-efficacy of the individual is the practice of nurse coaching. Coaching means 'guiding a person from one place to another' and it is the collaboration to set goals and action plans that will maximize personal well-being in the field of health. Technics that includes holistic approach, motivational interview, setting a goal and achieving it, the use of solution-oriented techniques, and structured relationship-centered interaction are coaching initiatives to increase the self-efficacy of patients and their relatives in cancer prevention and management. This review was planned to examine the nurse coaching initiative in cancer prevention and cancer management, and the studies on the subject were evaluated. As a result, it was determined that some nurse coaching interventions in cancer prevention were implemented, but the number of nurse coaching interventions including all practices was limited. In future studies, it is recommended to evaluate the effect of nurse coaching on self-efficacy and comfort in individuals in the prevention and management of cancer.
