Abstract
The aim of this study is to evaluate the incidence and rate of dental diseases in patients who applied to the Faculty of Dentistry, Trakya University among the patient groups with advanced systemic problems and/or systemic diseases. 2000 random patients were examined. Systemic diseases that do not prevent treatment or do not require consultation were evaluated as simple systemic diseases (SD), and the presence of systemic diseases that prevent treatment or require medical consultation or prophylaxis were evaluated as high risk systemic diseases (HRSD). Radiographs, anamnesis forms and treatment plans were examined, and the number and rate of dental problems were determined. 39.5% of the patients have SH, and 31.2% of the patients HRSH. HRSH was most frequent in the age ≥65 (28.3%) and 41 - 62 (17.5%, P<0.05). Most common HRSH are advanced cardiac problems (12%), history of cancer, radiotherapy, and/or chemotherapy (10.3%), pregnancy (9.5%), and cancer, radiotherapy, and/or chemotherapy (8%, P<0.05). The most common dental problems in patients with HRSH are missing teeth/prosthetic treatment (26.9%) and localized periodontal diseases (22.7%, P<0.05). Detailed systemic anamnesis will provide a significant reduction in systemic complications, especially in individuals with HRSH. Also, it is important for dentists to receive medical education to prevent possible systemic complications.
