2. Details such as page number, header and footer should not be included in the articles.
3. Only the first letters of each word of the headings in the article should be capitalized and no other formatting should be included.
4. In terms of spelling and punctuation, except for special cases required by the article or the topic, the Spelling Guide of the Turkish Language Association should be taken as a basis.

Author Guidelines
1. Ondokuz Mayıs University Journal of Humanities accepts articles written in Turkish and English languages. Block citations in articles submitted to the journal should not exceed 10% of the total word count of the article.
2. Submission of the manuscript to Ondokuz Mayıs University Journal of Humanities is accepted as an application for publication. There is no copyright fee for the articles.
3. Authors should add a Turkish and English abstract stating the original contribution to the field of the article, along with the title. Abstracts should not exceed 300 words each. It should also include Turkish and English 4 (four) keywords each. The editor and editorial board of Ondokuz Mayıs University Journal of Humanities can make the necessary changes on the text to ensure the understanding of the Turkish and English titles of the articles and to increase the quality of the publication.
4. Under the title of the article, information such as the name of the author, title, institution and e-mail address where s/he can be reached should be included.
5. Manuscripts submitted to the journal must not have been published elsewhere before or should not be evaluated elsewhere at the same time. The publication of the symposium papers is possible provided that this situation is stated.
6. Headings and subheadings in the article should be numbered as follows:

ONDOKUZ MAYIS UNIVERSITY JOURNAL OF HUMANITIES REFERENCE GUIDE

1. Articles submitted to Ondokuz Mayıs University Journal of Humanities must be written using footnotes. The sources in the footnotes are given in the Bibliography section at the end of the article together with their clear and detailed information. Footnotes should be given after the period at the end of the sentence.

Example: The Law on the Revolutionary Charter found a field of application in the Ottoman Empire as the translation of the French Revolution Draft Law dated July 5, 1844.1

2. First-Time Citations to a Source

When citing a source for the first time, the available bibliographic information of the work is written as shown in the example below. Attention is paid to the order of information, spelling and punctuation. In the footnote, reference can be made to the entire work, a specific page or a specific page range. The full page range of articles and book chapters is shown in the bibliography.

3. Citations to the Same Source a Second Time or Later
In second time or later references to a source (cited work or afore-mentioned article), abbreviations are not used, author name and print information are not written. The surname of the author, the name of the work or its appropriate abbreviation, if available, the volume and page number are written.

4. Book with a Single Author or Editor

Each word of book titles is written in capital letters and italic. Conjunctions such as and, or, either, or, etc. in the title of the work are written in lowercase letters. No abbreviation is made in the first footnote.

Some books with a single author may be edited by others. In this case, the editor must be specified. In Turkish studies, it is indicated by the abbreviation prepared for publication (haz), compiled (der.), Editor (ed.). In English studies, it is abbreviated as editor (ed.), Editors (eds.). In Arabic studies, (thk.) and (nşr) is used as abbreviation respectively.

5. Book with Two Authors / Editors

In Turkish studies with two authors, the names of all authors are written in an order and the conjunction "ve" is given before the last author. In English articles, the conjunction "and" is added. In the bibliography, the first author's surname is written in capital letters, followed by a comma, the name of the author, and the name and surname of the second author.

6. Books with Multiple Authors


In articles with three or more authors, after the name of the first author, etc. (and others) abbreviation may be used. The names of all the authors can also be written in the order in the book. In this case, the conjunction "and" is added before the last author's name in Turkish studies, and "and" in English ones.

7. Review/A Chapter in an Edited Book
Such studies are indicated by writing the name of the compiler or editor after the name of the article. The section in the study is written in quotation marks (“…”) and normally. The title of the book is written in italics. The pages of the book where the section is quoted is indicated in the bibliography. There is no need for this in the footnote.

8. Other Books by the Same Author
When other books by the same author are shown in the footnote, no changes are made. In the bibliography, the books by the same author are listed one after the other in order of date. In the first row, the surname and name are written, in the others, the surname and a dash (______,) are drawn instead of the name.

9. Books without an Author
The credentials of books that have no author or whose author is unknown begin with the name of the work in the footnote and in the bibliography. In the bibliography, the name of the work is taken as basis in alphabetical order.

10. Multi-Bound Books
In quotations made from multi-bound books (after the translator / editor name, if any), the volume of the quotation is indicated in the footnote. The total number of volumes is written in the bibliography.

11. Translated Books
Who / by whom translated books are translated immediately after the title of the work with the abbreviation (çev.), ("trans." in English translations). It should be stated whether the translator translated the whole book or a section from the book. If a chapter is translated from the book, the page number is given after the date information as in periodicals.

12. Periodicals
Article names in periodicals are written in quotation marks while citing the source. Periodical titles are written in italics just like book titles. The volume and issue, if any, are written after the name of the periodical. Publication place and publisher are not specified in periodicals. If the date of publication is also specified as a month, it is written after the issue number. If the journal names are too long, they may be capitalized. In the bibliography, the pages of the journal are specified separately. The volume and issue of the journal can also be shown as "2/13".

The method followed in periodicals is followed in published congress and symposium papers. In unpublished papers, the place and date of the symposium are given.

The method followed in periodicals is followed in showing the sources of the quotations from the encyclopedia articles. The volume number must be written in the second and subsequent references in the footnotes. Only the items of the encyclopedia used are stated in the bibliography. This is shown as in periodicals.

18. Newspaper Articles and News
While citing the source of quotations from newspaper news or articles, the path followed in periodicals is followed. After the article / news title, the name of the newspaper, (day, month, year) is written, then the page number is specified. In the news without a writer, the name of the newspaper is taken over.

19. Bibles and Classics
Scripture name, chapter, chapter or verse number is given respectively.
Old Testament, Exodus, 14: 2.
New Testament, Mark, 11: 6.
It can also be cited without specifying the name of the holy book by writing the sura and verse number: Bakara, 2/12.
Nisa, 4/43.
The application for the Bible can be preferred as follows:
Matthew, 5:18.
Deuteronomy, 14: 6.

Since there are different translations of the holy books, the first footnote should include who translated it, the edition, the place of publication, the publisher and the year of publication. It is important to pay attention to the number of editions, as revisions are frequently made in subsequent editions of Bible translations.

When referring to hadith books known as Kutub-i Sitte, the name of the author is written, followed by a comma, and the name and number of the book / bâb are given after the comma (for example; Bukhârî, İlim, 12; Müslim, Ticârât, 45; Tirmidhi, Edeb, 18). When referring to hadith sources other than this format, the method of citing a book with a single author is followed.

20. Electronic Resources
The order followed in periodicals is followed. The full address of the web page (the quoted link must be found exactly) and the date of access are written. There is no need to retype the web address after the first display in the footnote. When quoting from the database, the name of the database is written instead of the web address. In electronic sources with an unknown author, the article / article name is written first.
