Cold War-Period Intra-Bloc Conflicts: The Eastern and Western Blocs

Year 2025, Volume: 15 Issue: 4, 1 - 29, 04.12.2025

Abstract

This study examines the intra-alliance conflicts within the Eastern and Western Blocs during the Cold War, the hegemonic powers’ approaches to these conflicts and the effects of these situations on the functioning of alliances. The research is a literature analysis based on secondary sources, and historical events and developments are examined primarily through academic studies and secondary materials. The study’s main objective is to evaluate the conflict dynamics of the Eastern and Western Blocs and the interventions of the hegemonic powers in these dynamics through a holistic comparison. In this context, it is analysed how the conflict dynamics within both blocs shape alliances’ cohesion and long-term stability. In particular, the strategies of the Soviet Union in the Eastern Bloc to preserve and maintain its hegemony and the policies of the United States in the Western Bloc to establish intra-alliance cohesion and solidarity will be analysed to provide a perspective on the differences between the two blocs. This study examines how intra-alliance conflicts within the Eastern and Western blocs during the Cold War were managed by the hegemonic powers and how these processes affected the cohesion, sustainability and long-term stability of the blocs.

Soğuk Savaş Dönemi Blok İçi Çatışma: Doğu ve Batı Bloku

Year 2025, Volume: 15 Issue: 4, 1 - 29, 04.12.2025
