Examining the Evaluation of Current Middle School Mathematics Textbooks in Türkiye by Middle School Mathematics Teachers; High School Entrance Exam (LGS) and New Generation Questions

Abstract

The Türkiye Century Maarif Model curriculum was adopted in Türkiye in 2024. Determining the problems in existing mathematics textbooks plays an important role in the creation of new mathematics textbooks after the curriculum. So, the aim of this study is to examine the evaluation of Ministry of National Education (MoNE) middle school mathematics textbooks by middle school mathematics teachers. In this context, this study was conducted using the case study design, one of qualitative research methods. The study was conducted in the spring semester with 19 middle school mathematics teachers working in public middle schools in the center of a province located in the west and determined by an easily accessible sampling method. The data were collected through a written opinion form consisting of open-ended questions and analyzed by content analysis method. As a result of study, it was determined that middle school mathematics teachers most often consider textbooks in terms of their suitability for the high school entrance exam and new generation questions. In addition, it has been seen that they have made many suggestions for the development of textbooks.
