Examination of Visual and Auditory Reaction Times of Licensed Tennis Players in Different Age Groups

Abstract

The aim of this study was to detect the audio–visual reaction periods of different age groups and 11–17 aged tenis players were included to this study.  The differences between 11–14 aged and 15–17 aged tenis players have consisted the scope of this study. Audio–visual reaction period measurement, which have been conducted in a sound free, and properly lighted environment have been made with help of a device called Newtest 1000. All the measurements have been conducted between the hours 14:00 and 16:00. Every athlete has been informed about the test prior to the acquisition process and each player has been given 5 trial modes before the actual recording. The second of 5 trial and their results have been recorded in the form. According to measurement results; The mean visual reaction value of tennis players in the 11–14 age group was 0,367±0,047 msc and the mean visual reaction value of tenis players in the 15–17 age group was found to be 0,315±0,034 msc. The mean auditory reaction value of tennis players in the 11–14 age group was 0,364±0,066 msc and the mean visual reaction value of tenis players in the 15–17 age group was found to be 0,363±0,055 msc. The data acquired in there search have been analyzed with the test method “Mann Whitney-U” due to Shapiro-Wilks Normality Test result. After the statistical analyze;

11–14 age group and 15–17 age group have been different time periods in respect of visual reaction (p > 0,05). 11–14 age group and 15–17 age group has different time periods in respect of audio reaction (p > 0,05). As a conclusion in respect of audio–visual reaction periods, 15–17 age group has recorded higher sizes in comparison with the 11 – 14 age group.
