Investigation of Students and Teacher Candidates to Establish the Relationship Between Simple Harmonic Motion and Uniform Circular Motion
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to reveal the status of high school students and physics teacher candidates to establish the relationship between simple harmonic motion and uniform circular motion. The study group of the study is composed of 33 high school students from 12th grade and 52 physics teacher candidates who have taken general physics courses. In line with the purpose of the study, a measurement tool that contains eight open-ended and drawing questions was developed. The data obtained from the measurement tool were analyzed by document analysis. In the evaluation of the answers, rubric which is composed of correct answer, partially correct answer, correct-wrong answer, wrong answer and unanswered categories were used. The obtained data showed that answers of students and teacher candidates mostly gathered in wrong answer category. The fact that the collection of answers mostly in wrong answer category reveals that students and teacher candidates have problems in establishing a relationship between simple harmonic motion and uniform circular motion.
