Abstract

Purpose: This research aims to examine the relationship between career stress, five-factor personality traits, and fear of COVID-19 in university students. In addition, the variables of five-factor personality traits, and fear of COVID-19 were examined as predictors of university students' career stress levels.

Design & Methodology: The research was carried out with the relational survey model, one of the quantitative research methods. The study group of the research consists of 436 university students, of which 352 (80.7%) are female and 84 (19.3%) are male. Pearson correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis methods were used in the analysis of the data.

Findings: In the research; While there was a positive and significant relationship between university students' career stress levels and neuroticism (r=.368; p<.01), self-control (r = .127; p<.01), and fear of COVID-19 (r=.293; p <.01), a negative significant relationship was found with extraversion (r=-.311; p<.01) and agreeableness (r=-.188; p<.01) personality traits. It was observed that the variables of five-factor personality traits, and fear of COVID-19 included in the analysis together explained 24.8% of the total variance in career stress (R2=.248; p<.01).

Implications & Suggestions: In the study, it was seen that individual (personality traits) and psychological (fear of COVID-19) factors have an important place in explaining the career stress experienced by university students. In this context, it can be said that in career counseling services to be carried out to prevent career stress in university students, it can be said that studies can be carried out to reduce the stress that can be experienced in situations of uncertainty and to develop positive personality traits.

Üniversite Öğrencilerinde Kariyer Stresi, Beş Faktör Kişilik Özellikleri ve COVID-19 Korkusu Arasındaki İlişkilerin İncelenmesi

Year 2023, Volume: 10 Issue: 20, 15 - 27, 16.10.2023
https://doi.org/10.29129/inujgse.1203260
