Türkiye’de Hemşirelik Mesleğinin Profesyonelleşmesi Sürecinde Gelişmeler ve Zorluklar: Sosyolojik Bir Değerlendirme

Abstract

Bu çalışma, bir alan araştırmasının verileri üzerinden hemşirelik mesleğinin profesyonelleşme sürecinde karşılaştığı temel sorunları betimlemeyi ve profesyonelleşme tartışmaları çerçevesinde mesleğin günümüzdeki durumunu sosyolojik olarak değerlendirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırmanın örneklemi 42 hemşireden oluşmaktadır, veriler derinlemesine mülakatlar ile elde edilmiş, betimsel ve sistematik olarak analiz edilip yorumlanmıştır. Bulgulara göre mesleki eğitim düzeyindeki çeşitlilik, istihdam tiplerinde görülen farklılıklar, mesleki özerklik ve örgütlenme düzeylerinin düşüklüğü mesleğin profesyonelleşme sürecindeki temel sorunlarıdır. Bunun yanında bulgular meslekte doktor-hemşire otoritesinin sorgulanmaya çalışıldığını, yakın meslekleri dışlayarak kendi pozisyonunu korumaya çalıştığını ve bazı görevlerini başka mesleklere aktarmaya çalıştığını göstermektedir. Profesyonelleşme açısından son derece önemli olan bu üç hareket, hemşireliğin profesyonelleşme sürecinde ilerlemeye devam ettiğini göstermektedir.

Developments and Difficulties in the Professionalization Process of Nursing Occupation in Turkey: A Sociological Evaluation

Abstract

This study, drawing on the data of a qualitative field research, aims to describe the main problems of nursing occupation in the professionalization process and to sociologically evaluate the current position of the occupation in the frame of professionalization discussions. The data are gathered by in-depth interviews with 42 nurses who constitute the sample. The findings show that the main problems of nursing occupation in the professionalization process are the variety of occupational education levels, the diversity in employment status and the low degree of occupational autonomy and organization. The findings also show that nursing occupation tries to question the physicians’ authority, to secure its market position by excluding relevant occupations and to transfer some tasks to subordinate occupations. These three acts indicate that nursing is advancing in the professionalization process.
