Workers’ Motives in Joining Trade Unions and Membership Recruitment Strategies of Trade Unions

Abstract

One of the apparent faces of the crises in the worker unionization is the decreasing in union membership. It is important to reanswer the old question of why some workers would still become or want to become the members of trade unions, while trade unionism is on the decline. Therefore, membership recruitment strategies and tactics which are believed to revitalize trade unions should be evaluated in this context. Based on a literature review, this paper aims to analyze individual reasons of the workers who become the members of the unions, membership recruitment strategies of trade unions, and which membership motives these strategies fortify.
