The Life and Character of Kâ’b b. Mâlik, the Poet of the Prophet Muhammed
Abstract
Kâ’b b. Mâlik, who belongs to Medina Hazrec tribes to the Benî Selime arm, was born in Medina nearly 27 years ago from hegira. He was one of the people who first chose Islâm religion among the members of ansar in Medina. He joined the second Akaba negatiation which was very important in the first period of Islamic history and contributed to spread Islâm both in his tribe and Medina. He joined all wars which prophet took place except from Bedir and Tebûk. He didn’t join Tebûk war, and for that reason Tevbe periods of 117-119 verses were sent for him and his collegues. So that, they were forgiven by God. He served to muslims also wıth his expressions not only in battlefield. He also had active role since the foundatıon of islamic state instituion of Medina, after the hegira of the prophet of Medina. One of attractive things about him is his poetship. Because of this, he was called the poet of the prophet. He motivated the muslims in every war and occasion with his poems. He also demoralised the enemies by satirizing sowing discord. With his great characteristics, in the first period of Islâm, he was one of the rare people who managed to attract everybody’s attention.
