The Rights of Non-Muslims in Islam: An Opening Statement

Abstract

This paper is a translation of the Thomas Michel’s study titled “The Rights of Non-Muslims in Islam: An Opening Statement”. In his paper, the author mainly discusses the theme of the perspective of Islam re- garding non-Muslims. Firstly, he explains the minority rights both the universal norms and the specific formulation, and after that he exam- ines these topics: The people of the book, The Sharia and the non- Muslim, The Right to Appeal, Discrimination, Worship, Proselytism and Conversion, Marriage and family, The need for dialogue. The author’s points of view were discussed by many Muslim authors, and replied. This paper and other refutations will be translated to make contribution to the historical criticism and to see the whole discussions in the same platform
