1701 Basra Campaign An Obedience Created by Ottoman Army through a Military March Basra, which dates back to the ancient era and which was established as a garrison for the military purpose in the time of Caliph Umar, has important position because of its geo-strategic and geopolitical location. Basra was a centre for the first rebellion against the central authority in the early Islamic history; furthermore, it continued this central position in the historical process and Basra, which had identified with the religious and political rebellion, was seen as a city of rebellions in the Ottoman period as well. One of the movements of rebellion and invasion which took place in Basra is Bedouins rebellion in 1691, which was dissolved ten years later during the Basra Campaign. In this military movement which involved hundred and fifty thousand there was unseen any conflicts and the soldiers of Ottoman army provided the obedience of this area once more just by military walking
Geçmişi kadim devirlere kadar uzanan ve Hz. Ömer zamanında askerî amaçlı bir garnizon olarak kurulan Basra, her dönemde jeostratejik ve jeopolitik konumundan kaynaklanan bir öneme sahip olmuştur. İslam tarihinde merkezî otoriteye karşı başlatılan ilk isyanda taraf olma, sonrasında ise dinî ve siyasî içerikli pek çok isyanda merkez olma özelliği ile ön plana çıkan Basra, Osmanlı tarihinde de isyanlar şehri olarak anılmıştır. Basra‘da meydana gelen bu isyan ve istila hareketlerinden biri de 1691 yılında patlak veren ve ancak on yıl sonra düzenlenen Basra Seferi ile bastırılan Urbân isyanıdır. Yüz elli bin kişilik bir ordu ile gerçekleştirilen bu seferde herhangi bir çatışma yaşanmamış, Osmanlı ordusu sırf yürüyüşle bölgenin yeniden itaatini sağlamıştır
