Abstract

Year 2023, , 564 - 578, 25.06.2023

Abstract

Purpose: This article examines the final years of Robert College’s “Yüksek Okul” and its transfer to the Ministry of Education.
Method: Relying on the Robert College archives and biographical accounts it focuses on the differing dynamics of the Robert College’s transformation to Bogazici University.
Findings: It can be said that the “Turkification” of Robert College was a product of a consensus among the American Board of Trustees and the Turkish bureaucrats and politicians. Ideological polarization of the 1960s, changing choices of administration, and Cold War conjuncture made the emergence of Bogazici University possible.
Originality: Based on archival findings the study offers a novel account of the College’s transfer to the Ministry of Education. These findings are presented along with biographical sources
