The Concept “Thoughts into heart” (Havātır) as the Voice of God, Conscience and the Move Power of Reaching the Truth

Abstract

When the existence of God and his relationship with man come to the fore, every human being, whether he accepts his existence or not, has the desire to connect with God in some way, if there is and if possible, and to communicate with Him. Because, by nature, Humans have an irresistible sense of wonder about things that they know but have not seen or think they can exist. However, divine religions explain that in the worldly life, God communicates only through revelation and prophecy or only with selected people, and that he communicates his orders and prohibitions, desires and pleasures regarding the whole universe and humanity only in this way. It is obvious that such a relationship will no longer be possible in the world after the last Prophet once again and finally preached Islam as the true religion. Then, has God completely cut off all contact with humans, or does God have a one-to-one and different relationship with every human individual since the beginning of humanity, independently of revelation and prophecy, or does humanity have such an opportunity and ability? If God does not have contact with people individually, how and in what way does the test of human beings and their relationship with God take place? In the history of thought, the concept of conscience has generally been brought to the fore in the solution of the aforementioned and notable questions and problems, and it has been thought that it is a place that reveals the voice, messages and wishes of God in man by undertaking the functions of conscience. In this respect, in the religious-philosophical tradition and in the literature in the field of psychology, conscience has been considered as an internal parameter that is believed to exist in human beings from the moment they are born and helps to distinguish good from bad, as an abstract concept that can change and can be developed from person to person, and it has been stated that conscience is in the position of a guiding guide for human beings. Similar to the characteristics attributed to conscience, in other words, to the inner voice of the human being, the scholars of Kalam stated that there are internal stimuli called “Thoughts into heart” (Havātır) in the heart of the human, and they described “these thoughts into heart” (hatır) as good and bad and went to analyze them in depth. In this article, the problem is going to be examined by considering the functions of conscience and the meanings attributed to the concept of “Thoughts into heart” (Havātır) by theologians.
