ITU Nanoscience, Mineral and Surface Chemistry (ITUNMSC) is committed to maintaining high standards of scientific integrity, transparency, impartiality, and ethical publishing. The journal follows the principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) throughout its editorial, peer-review, and publication processes.
1. Publication Ethics and Author Responsibilities
All submitted manuscripts must be original, scientifically sound, and free from plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, and duplicate publication.
Manuscripts must not have been published previously or be under consideration for publication elsewhere. All authors must have made substantial contributions to the research and must approve the submitted manuscript.
Authors are responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their work, including the appropriate citation of previously published research.
2. Ethical Approval and Research Integrity
Research involving human participants, animals, or biological materials must comply with applicable national and international ethical standards.
Where required, ethics committee approval and informed consent must be obtained and clearly documented in the manuscript.
Authors must provide relevant ethical approval information, including the name of the approving committee, approval date, and reference number.
3. Plagiarism and Similarity Screening
All submitted manuscripts are subject to plagiarism and similarity screening using appropriate detection software.
The journal generally expects a similarity index below 20%. However, similarity reports are evaluated based on the nature and extent of overlapping content rather than solely on a numerical similarity score.
Manuscripts containing plagiarism, inappropriate text reuse, duplicate publication, or other forms of academic misconduct may be rejected.
4. Peer Review and Editorial Process
ITUNMSC follows a double-blind peer-review process, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from each other.
Submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial assessment for scientific relevance, originality, compliance with journal guidelines, and ethical standards.
Manuscripts passing the initial assessment are evaluated by at least two independent reviewers with relevant scientific expertise. Additional reviewers may be invited when necessary.
Editorial decisions are based on scientific quality, originality, methodological validity, and reviewers' recommendations. The Editor-in-Chief holds final responsibility for editorial decisions.
5. Responsibilities of Editors and Reviewers
Editors must ensure fair, objective, confidential, and impartial evaluation of submitted manuscripts. Editorial decisions must be independent of authors' institutional affiliations, nationality, gender, or personal characteristics.
Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, and timely evaluations, maintain confidentiality, and disclose any potential conflicts of interest.
Editors and reviewers must not use unpublished information obtained during the evaluation process for personal or professional advantage.
6. Conflicts of Interest, Funding, and Author Contributions
Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, institutional, academic, or personal conflicts of interest that may influence the publication process.
All sources of financial support and relevant grant numbers must be clearly acknowledged.
Author contributions must be specified, preferably using the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT).
7. Use of Artificial Intelligence
The use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools must comply with scientific integrity and transparency principles.
Authors must disclose the use of AI tools when they have contributed to manuscript preparation, data processing, analysis, or other substantive aspects of the research. The disclosure should identify the tools used and describe their purpose.
AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and scientific validity of all submitted content.
8. Corrections, Retractions, and Appeals
ITUNMSC follows COPE recommendations in handling corrections, retractions, and allegations of publication misconduct.
Published articles may be corrected or retracted when significant errors, ethical violations, or unreliable findings are identified.
Authors may appeal editorial decisions by submitting a reasoned written request to the editorial office. Appeals and complaints are evaluated fairly and confidentially.
9. Copyright and Licensing
Authors must submit a completed and signed Copyright and Author Agreement Form during manuscript submission.
All published articles are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) license, which permits sharing and adaptation of published content for non-commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given to the original authors and source.
Copyright ownership and author rights are governed by the journal's Copyright and Author Agreement Form.
10. Publication and Open Access Policy
