Author Guidelines

Authors submitting manuscripts to ITU Nanoscience, Mineral and Surface Chemistry (ITUNMSC) must follow the guidelines outlined below. All manuscripts must be written in English, prepared using the official ITUNMSC manuscript template, and submitted electronically through the DergiPark submission system.

ITUNMSC employs a double-blind peer-review process. Authors must ensure that the manuscript submitted for review does not contain any information that could reveal their identities.

During submission, the full-text manuscript, prepared according to the official ITUNMSC template, must be accompanied by the following documents, uploaded separately to the DergiPark system:

  • Title Page: A separate file containing the manuscript title, full names of all authors, institutional affiliations, ORCID identifiers, and corresponding author's contact information.
  • Cover Letter: A letter briefly describing the originality, scientific significance, and contribution of the manuscript. The letter must also confirm that the manuscript has not been published previously and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
  • Copyright and Author Agreement Form: The completed form must be signed by the corresponding author and uploaded to the DergiPark system.

The full-text manuscript must be anonymized to ensure compliance with the journal's double-blind peer-review policy.

1. Article Types

ITUNMSC publishes the following types of manuscripts:

Research Articles: Original scientific studies presenting significant findings supported by appropriate experimental, theoretical, or computational investigations. Manuscripts must provide sufficient methodological details to ensure reproducibility.

Review Articles: Comprehensive and critical evaluations of current developments in fields covered by the journal. Review articles should identify recent advances, scientific challenges, knowledge gaps, and future research directions.

Short Communications: Concise reports presenting original and scientifically significant findings that warrant timely dissemination.

2. Manuscript Preparation

All manuscripts must be prepared in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx) using the official ITUNMSC manuscript template.

Authors must follow the formatting requirements specified in the template, including page layout, font type and size, headings, spacing, figures, tables, and references.

Manuscripts must be written in clear, concise, and grammatically correct English. Standard scientific terminology and SI units should be used throughout the manuscript. Abbreviations must be defined at their first occurrence.

3. Manuscript Submission and Double-Blind Review

To maintain anonymity during peer review, authors must submit the following files separately:

Title Page: A separate file containing the manuscript title, full names of all authors, institutional affiliations, ORCID identifiers, and corresponding author's email address.

Blinded Manuscript: The main manuscript file must contain the title, abstracts, keywords, main text, figures, tables, and references without author names, affiliations, acknowledgements identifying the authors, or other identifying information.

Authors should also remove identifying information from file properties and metadata. Self-citations should be presented neutrally without revealing the authors' identities.

Information that may compromise anonymity, including identifying acknowledgements and funding details, should be provided separately during submission and incorporated into the manuscript after acceptance.

4. Manuscript Structure

Research articles should generally include the following sections:

  • Title
  • Abstract and Keywords
  • Turkish Abstract (Türkçe Özet)
  • Introduction
  • Materials and Methods
  • Results and Discussion
  • Conclusions
  • Acknowledgements (if applicable)
  • Conflicts of Interest
  • Funding
  • Author Contributions
  • Data Availability Statement
  • References

The organization of review articles and short communications may be adapted to their scientific content.

4.1. Title

The manuscript title should be concise, informative, and accurately reflect the scientific content of the study. Abbreviations should be avoided unless widely recognized.

4.2. Abstract and Keywords

The English abstract must be written as a single paragraph and should not exceed 300 words.

For research articles, the abstract should briefly present the research objectives, methodology, principal findings, and main conclusions.

Authors must provide three to five keywords that accurately represent the manuscript's scientific content.

4.3. Turkish Abstract (Türkçe Özet)

All manuscripts must include a Turkish title and a Turkish abstract of 250–300 words.

The Turkish abstract should accurately reflect the scientific content of the English abstract and be written in clear, academically appropriate Turkish.

The Turkish abstract must be followed by three to five Turkish keywords (Anahtar Kelimeler).

Authors who are not proficient in Turkish may seek language assistance to prepare the Turkish abstract.

4.4. Main Text

Introduction: The Introduction should present the scientific background, relevant literature, research gap, and objectives of the study.

Materials and Methods: This section should provide sufficient information on the materials, experimental procedures, analytical techniques, and computational methods to ensure reproducibility.

Results and Discussion: The findings should be presented clearly and interpreted in relation to relevant scientific literature. Results and Discussion may be presented as separate sections when appropriate.

Conclusions: The Conclusions should summarize the principal findings, scientific contributions, and implications of the study without unnecessarily repeating the Results and Discussion.

4.5. Figures, Tables, and Equations

All figures and tables must be numbered consecutively and cited in the text.

Figure captions must be written in English and placed below the corresponding figures. Table titles must be written in English and placed above the corresponding tables.

Figures must be of sufficient resolution to ensure clarity and readability. Tables should be provided in editable format.

Equations should be prepared using an equation editor and numbered consecutively.

Detailed formatting requirements are provided in the official ITUNMSC manuscript template.

4.6. References

References must follow the American Psychological Association (APA), 7th edition.

In-text citations should use the author–date system, and the reference list must be arranged alphabetically by the surname of the first author.

All cited references must appear in the reference list, and all references included in the list must be cited in the manuscript.

Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) should be provided where available.

4.7. Ethical Declarations and Transparency

All manuscripts must comply with internationally accepted standards of research integrity and publication ethics.

Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality, accuracy, and integrity of their submitted work.

Where applicable, the following statements must be provided:

Conflicts of Interest: All financial and non-financial conflicts of interest must be disclosed. If no conflicts exist, authors should state: "The authors declare no conflict of interest."

Funding: All sources of financial support, including relevant grant numbers, must be acknowledged. If no external funding was received, authors should state: "No external funding was received for this research."

Author Contributions: The contributions of individual authors must be clearly specified, preferably using the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT).

Data Availability Statement: Authors must indicate whether and how the data supporting their findings can be accessed.

Ethical Approval: Studies requiring ethical approval must provide the relevant approval information. Where applicable, informed consent must also be documented.

Detailed requirements regarding publication ethics, plagiarism, authorship, and research integrity are provided in the journal's Ethical Principles and Publication Policy.

5. Manuscript Submission

Manuscripts must be submitted through the ITUNMSC online submission system on DergiPark.

Before submission, authors must ensure that the manuscript complies with the journal's aims and scope, formatting requirements, and ethical standards.

Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's submission requirements may be returned to the authors for technical corrections before editorial evaluation.
